The leaders we elect in office will determine whether the state of living will change or we’ll keep going through the same challenges we have been going through for the longest time. Politicians make a lot of promises when campaigning but never fulfill them when they get to the office. The importance of choosing credible leader cannot be emphasized enough.
The first thing one needs to consider when choosing their leaders is if the leaders plan on addressing the issues they face. Listen to the politicians’ statements and ensure that the issues you need to be addressed are what they plan on addressing.
Find out as much as you can about the candidates vying. Use the newspapers and online resources as this will help you know more about the candidate. Gather as much material as you can on the candidates by listening to their campaign speeches and debates, press reports and campaign literature. It important to know the candidate’s stand on issues that affect the community as a whole as they will be tasked with the responsibility of handling them.
Find out other people’s opinion of your preferred candidate. do not just ask them if they are for or against your candidate but also try to find out their reasons for their decision. Find out who are endorsing your candidate. When an organization endorses a candidate, it is to their benefit in the long run. you can judge your candidate values by knowing their endorsers’ values. Know the source of funding for your candidates’ campaign. your candidate’s conduct in office will be determined by how they got money for their campaign. A good example would have to be Adil Baguirov who had to step down from school board after he changed his voter’s address although there are rumors that he had ties to shell companies.
look out for subtle signs when choosing your candidate. Most politicians have mastered the art of seeming perfect before their voters but if you are keen, you can easily see the faults in the way they carry themselves. Beware of name calling. Beware of candidates who attack their opponents based on characteristics that will not affect their performance in office.
Candidates at times try to make their opponents look guilty by association. A candidate who whines during competition and complains about their lack of delivery being caused by opponents major funds will whine even while in office. A good leader should accept responsibility of their actions. Candidates who pass blame when asked about their actions are not good leader. By promising better things to voters, politicians are able to win people’s heart. One should however be wary of promises made by politicians that seem too good to be true. Have enough time to weigh a politician’s pros and cons before making a decision.
